Waismann Method ® Recovery Story
“I had been addicted to hydrocodone, norco, and oxycontin for years, I really needed help. I had exhausted all other traditional forms of treatment, trying to find hope for my prescription painkiller addiction. I did a lot of research about rapid detox before I admitted myself into the Waismann Method. I was looking for a place for rapid detox, but also a place that included a long term strategy for success. The last thing I wanted to do was to go back home and relapse.
I flew in from Arizona on a Monday and was ready to live my life 6 days later. I praise them; the Waismann Method rapid detox and the Domus Retreat have given me a real chance to live opiate-free. I call it a cure or the closest possible thing to a cure. I know some may find it hard to believe that medical detox actually works but this truly worked for me.“ – Linda (Surprise, Arizona)
Relapse and Medical Detox
Relapse is the number one complication associated with detoxification and rehabilitation. Proper assessment, medical assistance through the detoxification process, and close supervision during detoxification and rehabilitation greatly reduce the risk for relapse. Unfortunately, not all programs provide essentials, needed for a safe and effective medical detoxification.
The presence of physical and emotional issues make a huge difference during recovery from physical dependence and addiction. High blood pressure, severe and prolonged withdrawal symptoms, cravings, depression, and other medical and mental health issues can increase the risk for serious complications that can derail detoxification and success.
Many programs take a cookie cutter approach to detoxification and rehabilitation, using a single treatment protocol instead of an individualized approach. A growing number of detox centers, now only provide assistance on an outpatient basis. Others send patients to hotel rooms immediately after the procedure; and expect family members to assess, diagnose, and/or treat the physical and emotional transition after the medical detox. These patients may not receive the close medical and rehabilitative supervision they need, such as regular blood pressure checks, medications to help with withdrawal symptoms, and monitoring of underlying medical or mental conditions that may cause complications and/or relapse.
Today’s most effective treatments for drug addiction and dependence are not one-size-fits-all solutions. Modern therapy includes hospitalization that allows doctors to perform comprehensive examinations and create highly individualized treatment plans, personalized according to the patient’s physical and psychological needs. Hospitalization also allows healthcare providers to monitor the health and progress of patients during detoxification and rehabilitation.
